When it comes to hackers looking solely for profit - ransomware(opens in new tab) is no longer the number one weapon of choice, new research has claimed.

Instead, their primary method is Business Email Compromise (BEC) attacks, a report from cybersecurity experts Secureworks analyzing more than 500 real-world security incidents that took place between January and December 2022 found, with the number of BEC incidents doubling to become the most common type of attack, dethroning ransomware. more

A report from Egress found 92% of organizations fell victim to successful phishing attacks in the last 12 months, and 91% of organizations admitted they have experienced email data loss.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, then, 99% of cybersecurity leaders surveyed confessed to being stressed about email security.

Jack Chapman, vice president of threat intelligence at Egress, explained that the stress of protecting and managing email systems is made even more difficult due to their complexity, including a combination of new and legacy technologies. more

Sixty-percent of marketing leaders believe collecting first-party customer data with an appropriate balance of customer value exchange and privacy will become more challenging in 2023, according to a survey by Gartner, Inc.

A Gartner survey of nearly 400 marketing leaders conducted in November and December 2022 revealed that 85% of respondents have implemented a formal policy to manage customer data, yet privacy remains an ongoing challenge. Despite this, marketers are leaning into personalization more than ever, with 42% of respondents citing that they are executing one-to-one personalized messages to customers. more
