Why Marketing Is The First To Be Cut In A Recession (And How To Fix It)
Whenever companies are looking to downsize, the marketing department is often the first to get hit with cuts. Marketing is often seen as an area to cut back without impacting core operations.

But why is this the case and is there any way we can change this view? Let's discuss why marketing always seems to see layoffs first and some ways you can help prevent this.
Marketing Viewed as a Luxury
One of the reasons marketing departments are cut during a recession is that marketing tends to be viewed as a luxury rather than a necessity. When times are tough, companies prioritize their spending on essential items over non-essential items like advertising and promotion.

The Role Of Data In Understanding Demographics For Effective Marketing
Understand your target market better and make your marketing efforts more effective by leveraging data to gain insight into demographics. Learn more here.

In the past, large data sets about consumers were far more difficult to come by. For small businesses and agencies, this meant being at a significant disadvantage to larger businesses and corporations that could afford to conduct large-scale research.
Today, however, this is far from the case and consumer data is more available than it ever has been before. This has evened the playing field as smaller businesses now have a chance to understand their demographics just as much as their larger competition. Gaining perspective on the importance of data when trying to comprehend demographics can give one deeper insight into how marketing teams function.
Here is the role of data in understanding demographics for effective marketing.

Everyone's A Winner: Exchanging Value In B2B Marketing
Marketing can sometimes feel like a one-way conversation. With interactive marketing it becomes a conversation.

Interactive B2B marketing tools and content can take many forms. They can be light touch - for example, gated thought leadership and competitions - or more detailed, such as calculators, assessment tools and configurators.
These more complex forms of interactive marketing are, at their core, a value exchange. They encourage the target audience to share some data in exchange for something of value they couldn't otherwise access, such as industry benchmarking information, expert advice or a service. The provider - you - can use this data, which would otherwise be difficult to obtain, to create more targeted marketing.

Gartner Survey Finds 81% Of Marketing Leaders Have Contingency Plans In Response To Disruptions, But Just 21% Follow Them
Marketers Who Follow Their Contingency Plans Achieve Success Against Organizational Goals

Eighty-one percent of marketing leaders have established a contingency plan to respond to disruptions, according to a survey by Gartner, Inc. However, just 21% of respondents said they follow these plans, as marketers weather the storm of continued economic and geopolitical uncertainty.
A Gartner survey of nearly 400 marketing leaders conducted in November and December 2022 revealed that 44% of digital marketing leaders who enacted a contingency plan during an economic disruption event exceeded organization year-over-year profit growth.

B2B SaaS marketers face a unique set of challenges when it comes to strategic planning. The industry is constantly evolving, with new trends and technology emerging at a rapid pace. To succeed in this dynamic environment, marketers must create a strategic plan that is adaptable, focused, and goal-oriented. Failure to do so might result in being left behind.

What is Strategic Planning?
Strategic planning is the process of setting goals, defining objectives, and outlining the actions needed to achieve those goals in a systematic and organized manner. It serves as a roadmap that aligns your marketing efforts with your overall business objectives and helps you make informed decisions to achieve success in a highly competitive market.

If you want to get a leg up and 10x your job hunt results, then stay with me for the whys and hows of sending video as a job hunter.

My story: How I landed an 80% interview rate with 0 sales experience
It was early 2020. I was making a career change from the public sector to the private sector, and started with sales roles as an entry point to make that career relaunch. I had no official sales or business experience. In February 2020, I emailed my first video pitch straight to the head of sales at a tech startup. Within three hours I had a reply, and had an interview set up within a day.

Customer Purchase Intention And Use In B2B Marketing
Purchase intention (or buyer intent) is a measure of each shopper's propensity to buy a product or service. Intent data is the dataset that provides insight into the customer's journey.

This data can illuminate when the prospect is actively considering purchasing your product/service. B2B organizations can use intent data for sales enablement, ABM, and to assist with their digital marketing strategy.
Using intent data helps target outreach through more precise and personalized marketing, increasing conversion rates. Intent data can also help with shortening sales cycles, preventing churn, and assists in upselling.
