A Love-Hate Letter To Email On Its 50th Anniversary (Part 1)
Email might not be perfect, but it's almost certainly here to stay
"Half a century ago, an MIT graduate named Ray Tomlinson became the first person to transmit a message from one computer to another, although it would be years before anyone referred to this practice as email.

Tomlinson worked for an engineering firm called Bolt Beranek and Newman (now Raytheon BBN), which had been contracted by the US Defence Department to help build the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET), itself a precursor to the internet as we know it today..."

How To Use ProtonMail To Send Secure, Encrypted Emails
ProtonMail is a secure email service that prioritizes privacy and security. You can use the service to send encrypted messages that should only be read by the intended recipient
There are a few ways to do this, depending on what security or email provider the recipient is using.

Option 1: Email Another ProtonMail User

If you are sending a message to another ProtonMail user, your email will be encrypted automatically. The recipient won't need to do anything to decrypt the message and can simply click or tap on the email to read it.

Every part of the process undergoes some sort of encryption. The connection between your computer and the server is encrypted, the contents of the email on the server are encrypted, and only the recipient has the correct key to be able to decrypt the message on the other end. Attachments are also secured.

4 Essential Steps To Account-Based Marketing
Want to strengthen your CRM response and boost the ROI of your digital marketing efforts? It sounds like you are ready to adopt an account-based marketing strategy
"Account-based marketing is a strategic digital marketing approach that depends on customized marketing tools to reach out to customers, individuals, or client accounts on a personal level. On a small level, this may mean target emails instead of mass emails, on a larger level it could mean personalized responses based on browsing habits, interests, etc.

Add a Personal Touch for Measurable Results

While intimidating at first, account-based marketing is an extremely effective digital marketing tool with the potential for a large ROI. Customers like personalized service and this service essentially recreates the personal attention of a clerk in the store and places it in your customers' inboxes..."

How To Close More Sales Deals Through Video Conferencing
If face-to-face meetings provide the best route to securing a sale, video conferencing is the next best thing
"After all, video is the most useful platform out there to improve the customer experience, having a much greater impact on sales than plain content ever will.

Making a sale can be a complex business, depending on several factors, in addition to the quality of your service offering. You'll need to earn the trust of your contacts, as well as present your brand as something worth investing in. Video conferencing offers all the benefits of a face-to-face meeting barring physical contact..."

50% Of B2B Sales Professionals Saw Their Workloads Increase During The Pandemic

How To Start Social Selling - 7 Tips To Set Up Your Strategy
So - you've probably been reading up on social selling, digital selling or whatever you want to call it. You know that it can completely reshape your business for the better
"You've seen the case studies and reports from social sellers that show how much of an impact the strategy has managed to have on their business and want the same for yourself.

But how do you actually get started with social selling? If you don't have any experience in social selling, it can seem daunting. There are so many considerations that come with running an effective social selling strategy that learning everything from the ground up can seem impossible. But - the truth is that while, yes, social selling is a skill that takes a long-term commitment to sharpen, most people have no problem improving rapidly and learning how to become an adept social seller in a few short months when they are willing to commit themselves to improvement..."

If Buyers Are Failing, Sales Can't Succeed
Recently, I wrote, Rethinking Sales Enablement. I suggested we might do better by thinking Buyer Enablement. I want to build on this theme.
"Human nature, I suppose, causes us to focus on our success. Are we winning the deals we choose to pursue? Are we making our number? Are we achieving the goals we've committed to achieve?

We measure our success based on our ability to achieve our goals.

But we are missing something important. If our buyers fail, we fail-or we underperform our potential.

Let's look at a couple of data points..."

Is 'Helping Our Customers' Incompatible With Selling?
Recently, I've been reading a series of discussions debating the concept, 'Can we really be driven by helping our customers while still focused on selling?'
"Some of the comments revolved around, 'How can we sell if we are focused on being helpful? It's incompatible to be driven by a goal to be selling a certain solution.'

I have to confess reading the discussions several times, trying to understand the arguments being made. To be honest, there were only opinions suggesting sales people need to focus on selling products, less so being helpful.

Somehow, it seems the argument is 'It is incompatible to be truly customer focused, care for your customer, and simultaneously be driven by achieving our own goals and selling products/services.'

Whose Deal Is This?
Who in the sales organization owns the responsibility for a deal? Who is responsible for leading the development and execution of the deal strategy?
"Most of us would respond, thoughtfully, 'It's the sales person's responsibility!'

Sadly, though, in practice it looks very different. To many managers, often well intended, take the deal over, they end up running the deal strategy and execution, sometimes delightfully surrendered by the sales person.

Let's get back to basics.

It's the sales person's responsibility to 'make the number.' The managers' jobs are to support their sales people in doing this. They do so by coaching, providing support/resources, removing roadblocks, providing systems, tools, training to help sales people in doing their job. Stated differently, orchestrating resources to help the sales people..."

Use Cases For CRMs Beyond Sales
Customer Relationship Management is a system used to improve the relationship with customers by collecting and organizing relevant data
"Over time, CRM systems have emerged as the primary tools used to coordinate sales strategy, especially in prospecting new customers. This contradicts the essence of CRM since, after all, the relationship with a customer never ends with the first sale. Customer relationships are to be continually nurtured for effective business growth.

No company can exist without customers (or clients); business is predicated on delivering satisfaction to customers. Therefore, fostering a healthier customer relationship should be the connecting factor of all layers and divisions of an organization's structure.

Effective customer relationship management spans marketing, operations, product development, etc. including, of course, sales..."

Inattentional Blindness
You may not be familiar with the term Inattentional Blindness but perhaps you've heard the story when observers at a basketball game were asked to count the number of times one of the teams passed the basketball
"They were so intent on counting the passes that roughly 50% of the observers did not see a person in a gorilla suit come on the court. (And they were in denial until showed proof in the video of the game!)

Can we become so focused on a task or behavior that we 'miss' quite a bit of what's happening around us? The answer seems to be yes..."
